Things to do in Raleigh: Lake Johnson

A while back I wrote about some scenic hikes in and around Raleigh. Today I went to Lake Johnson. I've been here many times before but the views always surprise me. I didn't have my camera with me this time; so had to settle by using my iPhone to snap some pictures.

Lake Johnson is located in Cary, NC. The trail is about 3 miles in length and has a easy rating on alltrails. There are a few hills that will be a beast to get through but overall its fairly flat and easy to navigate.

The trail is all paved and loops around east side of the lake. There are benches throughout so if a rest is needed there will be one easily and readily available.

Be sure to be on the lookout for the various water fowl that frequent the lake. I've personally seen mostly geese; but have seen a heron once or twice. There's also a big family of turtles that hang out near the corner that is sort of close to the visitors center.

The visitor center does have a deck overlooking the lake with several wooden rocking chairs that is nice for either just relaxing after the hike - or waiting for those who are doing the trail. Other activities include renting kayaks and stand up paddle boats. Other amenities include hammock posts, fishing spots, a qr fit trail and restroom facilities.

Make sure to put this area on your to-do list if you live in or near Cary or just visiting from out of town.
